How to Take Cockatiel off the Shoulder? #bird

Published on July 25, 2024

Some parrots get very clingy when they go on the shoulder. They don’t want to come off the shoulder! We can use clicker and target to ask them to come off. But what if they don’t want the treat as much as they want to stay on the shoulder?

Well, then this is a great training exercise!

You can ask them to step up on your hand from the shoulder and give them a treat and put them back on the shoulder. So 9 out of 10 times you ask them to step off the shoulder, you can give a treat and put them back on the shoulder. And only once in awhile give them a treat and actually take them off the shoulder.
