Can You Train a Parrot Without a CLICKER?

Published on October 03, 2024

Can you train a parrot without a clicker? Is a clicker mandatory for parrot training?

You certainly can train a parrot without a clicker! Just give treats when the parrot does something right. They are very smart and can learn many trained behaviors without a clicker. However, a clicker allows you to be more precise and efficient with your training. It will certainly save you time and help your parrot learn more easily, so I highly recommend it.

Furthermore, a clicker helps the parrot know when to cooperate for training and who to listen to. A clicker can be passed to another person and the parrot can train for that person even though the bird isn't bonded to them. Also, a clicker is a great way to help you regain trust whenever your parrot has any issues or behavior quirks going on.

So, while you totally can train a parrot without a clicker, I would strongly recommend using a clicker for most initial parrot training.
