Previous Video     Return to Search Results     Next Video How I Taught Buffon's Macaw to Wave Published on January 12, 2026 Here's how I taught this Great Green Macaw the wave trick. Teaching the wave trick is based off of step up. First, it is important to make sure the parrot is properly trained to step up by itself. Refer to my other videos about basic training and step up training. The wave is taught by pretending you want the parrot to step up but clicking and giving a reward once the foot comes up but before the bird steps up. Use a clicker to click the moment the foot comes up and before it can reach your hand. Start to show a wave cue while approaching with the other hand to stimulate a step up. When the foot comes up, click and give a treat.
