Weighing Great Green Macaw on Parrot Wizard NU Perch Scale

Published on February 05, 2026

Keeping track of a parrot's weight is important for understanding the bird's health. Checking the weight regularly can alert you to a sickness or injury sooner than symptoms may become visible. Parrots tend to lose weight rapidly when something is wrong.

Weighing a parrot can also help prevent obesity and long term health problems that are the result.

The Parrot Wizard NU Perch Scale is the best scale for weighing all parrots and especially large ones like this Great Green Macaw. To use the scale, turn it on and set the mode to grams. For most parrots, you can just set the bird on the perch on the scale. However, for large long-tailed parrots like macaws, set the scale with the back pointing to the edge of the table. The tail should not press on the table surface or it may alter the weight reading. Instead, have the tail hang off the scale and off the side of the table or counter.

The NU Perch on this scale is not only comfortable, more importantly it cane be familiar. It is part of the NU Perch series of perches from Parrot Wizard that can be used throughout your home. Not only are there NU Perches for inside the cage, but also tree stands, training perches, tabletop perches, window perches, scale, and more. Once the parrot is familiar with the NU Perch in the cage, the bird is less shy and knows to go to the perches you add around your home.
