Parrot Harness vs Travel Cage - What's Better?

Published on June 17, 2021

What is better for taking a parrot outside? A travel cage or a harness? This video discusses the pros and cons of using a travel cage as well as a harness.

Let's think about in which situations a harness is better and when is a travel cage better. Personally, I like having both because I find both a travel cage and a harness to be super useful for different purposes. A harness allows my parrot more freedom, mobility, exercise, and fun. On the other hand, a travel cage helps me have my bird out when I have less opportunity to focus on the bird or while traveling.

I have both a travel cage and a harness for each of my birds and I find them both super useful in different situations. In this video you can see Rachel the Blue and Gold Macaw wearing a harness and Truman the Cape Parrot in a Travel Cage.

You can get a lightweight aluminum travel cage like mine here:

And a harness for your parrot in any size:

The one I left out but I have and use for each bird as well is a travel carrier. Unlike a travel cage, carriers usually have solid walls and typically made from plastic. A travel carrier doesn't let sunlight in as well as a travel cage. I use a travel carrier strictly for transport while a travel cage is for the bird to enjoy the outdoors but from within that enclosure.
