What's that on parrot's head? Pin feathers #bird #macaw

What are those white sticks on my parrot's head? These are pin feathers. Birds molt their feathers and replace them with new ones. They grow out in the shape of a pin until they are fully grown and ready to open. You don't normally see pin feathers sticking out on the parrot's body because they open those themselves. However, the pin feathers on the head can remain for a long time because the parrot cannot reach to open those itself. Unless another bird or human opens up the pin feathers on the head, it may take a long time for them to open by themselves.
