Published on November 07, 2024 https://ParrotWizard.com/Nail_Trimmer Rachel my Blue and Gold Macaw lets me trim her nails voluntarily. I use the Parrot Wizard Nail Trimmer Stone which is specifically meant for trimming parrot claws. This nail file is hard as a rock and flat so it is beak resistant and files the nails blunt rather than round and pointy. Although Rachel is currently 12 years old, she has no trouble letting me trim her talons. However, this isn't necessarily the norm for most parrots. Most birds would freak out and not allow someone to cut or file their nails. I trained my macaw using positive reinforcement training to voluntarily give me her foot, be calm, and allow me to trim her nails.
