Are Buffon's Macaws More Gentle Than Other Macaws?

Published on January 05, 2026

Is it true that Great Green Macaws are more gentle than other macaws? It can be true compared to some of the smaller macaws like Blue and Gold or Scarlet Macaws. But, when comparing to larger macaws like Green-Winged Macaws and Hyacinth Macaws, I'd say they're pretty similar.

However, it also has to do with age. The bigger birds mature slower so they are in that youthful gentle phase for a much longer time. You're more likely to see a 2-4 year old big macaw that is more friendly and easy going than a smaller one. This is why training is super important regardless of size whether they are a giant macaw or a Green Cheek Conure.
