Sun Conure vs Blue and Gold Macaw as Pets

This video is about the difference between Blue and Gold Macaws and Sun Conures. Obviously there is a striking size and color difference. But, beneath it all, there are also many similarities. Learn about the pros and cons of Blue and Gold Macaws vs Sun Conures.

Macaws and Conures have similarly shaped bodies. They both have proportionately long tails compared to their bodies. Both are colorful and both originate from South American rainforest climates. They are from the same subfamily Arinae and same tribe Arini so they are distant cousins.

In terms of behavior, they also have some similarity in that they are both flock species so they are more likely to form bonds with a family rather than just a single individual.

There is a big difference in size. Sun Conures tend to be noisy but not very loud. Blue and Gold Macaws are very loud but tend to be less noisy. Sun Conures tend to be more persistent in their noisiness. Blue and Golds and Suns have beautiful coloring and can be quite appealing but their noisy can be the biggest drawback. Both can be very good at training and learn to step up and be friendly.

Sun Conures are more flighty but a Blue and Gold Macaw needs a lot more space to fly. Likewise Macaws need much bigger supplies and space. This makes Macaws much more costly to care for as a pet.
