Small Steps Lead to BIG Outcomes in Parrot Training

Published on May 05, 2026

The fastest way to success in parrot training is to slow down. Break things down into smaller steps. Don't think of the end goal. Instead, set tiny short term goals that you and your parrot can easily achieve. Keep building on those small successes for big outcomes later on.

Teaching a parrot to allow you to voluntarily trim the nails doesn't involve trimming the nails right away. Instead, first teach the parrot to just give you the foot. Then to give you the foot and make a gentle touch with the nail file. Building up trust in small steps leads to success doing the whole nail trim stress free later on.
