Cockatiel learns to step up with clicker and target #training #parrots

Published on July 15, 2024

How do I teach a Cockatiel to step up on my hand? This video shows two methods for teaching a Cockatiel to step on your finger. Initially, I might just lure the Cockatiel onto my hand using treats. Then, I use a more advanced method called target training.

I use a clicker and target stick to direct the cockatiel where I want her to go. She follows the target stick onto my hand and learns a more robust step up. Best of all, I can pass these tools to other people and they can also have success having the Cockatiel step up for them.
